International Homeless Animals Day is August 19th!

International Homeless Animals Day

Did you know that August 19th is International Homeless Animals day? This day originated back in 1992 by the International Society for Animal Rights. This day started with the intent to call attention to the issue of pet overpopulation, homelessness, abuse, and spay/neuter solutions around the world. The mission of ISAR, along with hundreds of other animal rights organizations,  is to keep a spotlight on this important issue and one day end pet overpopulation. You can find out more information about this holiday by visiting the ISAR website here.

Saving two lives

Did I ever tell you the story of how I got my two girls? If you missed it, I’ll fill you in.

Precious was my first love. My sister had a job and worked with a co-worker who had a cat that just had a litter of kittens. My sister was given the choice to pick one to take home so she ended up taking home the cat with the stripes and big ears. The adorable munchkin she brought home was a sassy tabby cat with white belly and white paws. We would later name her Precious.

As for how we got Dusty. Many many years ago, when I lived in southern California, I had driven to the supermarket on a random weekend to get a few groceries. I stopped at the local Ralph’s supermarket and standing outside the entrance was a little boy with a box full of kittens. The outside of the cardboard box said ” Kittens for sale $5 “. I couldn’t resist taking a peek. Yep. That’s all it took. I returned home with my eggs, milk, bread and a Siamese & Calico female kitten we would later name Dusty.

As you know by following my blog, my cats have passed away however I will adopt again. I can’t imagine life without a furball in my life. I encourage anyone ready for a full-time commitment and looking for a new pet to adopt from a shelter and save a life.

If you already have a pet, help solve the overpopulation problem and be sure to get them spayed/neutered. Check out my other flashback photo post of Precious called Just got Spayed.
