Kitten season is here. Meet Sir Penguin Kittyworth!

    It’s kitten season. Wanna foster?

June is here, and that means it’s kitten season which means it’s foster time! One half of the year is over, and I was beginning to wonder when I would get another foster cat. Well, just as fast as that thought crossed my mind, I got a random text last week after a long day. After dinner, I checked my messages and saw one from People for Animals. The subject of the message was titled “Wanna foster?” After clicking on the image and seeing this cutie, I said, “Heck yeah!”

    Meet Sir Penguin Kittyworth!

Within a day, I found myself returning to People for Animals to pick up this adorable black and white kitten named Sir Penguin Kittyworth. Yes, that’s really his name. He’s an adorable male tuxedo kitten. When I picked him up, he was about 6 weeks old and just had his deworming and the first round of shots.

Sir Penguin needed a foster home quickly to help get his immune system strong and get out of the shelter environment with the other animals. Being here at home with us is a much more conducive environment for a growing kitten. Having the ability to be in a cleaner, quieter, more comfortable setting will do him wonders for socialization and stimulation.

To be perfectly honest, I do not know much more about his background as I forgot to ask!! Imagine that? What can I say? His cute face has me mesmerized. I’m only assuming he is one from a litter from a pregnant cat that was surrendered or TNR (trapped, spayed/neutered and released).

    Coming home

We picked up Sir Penguin last weekend, and it’s been just over a week, and he’s flourishing. He was so shy and scared the first two days; however, taking him in our arms to cuddle and give reassuring hugs and head pats, he’s gaining his confidence.

Sir Penguin should be named Everest because he loves to climb and explore. When he’s in his playtime zone, he’s fearless. Honestly, since Precious and Dusty passed away, I forgot what it was like having such a young kitten in the home.

He’s in his big crate most of the time; however, my husband and I take him out every day to roam while being supervised. He’s a kitten, so he’s got the energy to burn, is still learning new sights and sounds, and is full of zest for life. Would you expect anything less?

Sir Penguin Kittyworth is pretty mild-mannered otherwise, as far as I can tell. He does love his playtime and pushing around balls. You can see him in action with my husband in the clip below.

    He’s a keeper?

Well, I have a confession to make. I’ve been fostering since last year and loved every minute of it. So when my husband was holding Sir Penguin one random evening, why did I blurt out, “Maybe we should keep him?”  Was that a Freudian slip? Am I finally ready to adopt? Maybe. It’s been 4 years since my heart cat Dusty passed away. I know she’s always with us in spirit, and no one will ever replace her. At the same time, I know I cannot live the rest of my life without paws in the home.

My husband likes the idea too. We’ll see what happens. I do want to be in a position to have the adequate space and flexibility to have a cat full-time. Perhaps I’m overthinking it, but I want my next cat to have the very best of everything.

    Time will tell

In the end, time will tell. I’ll be sure to keep you all posted. As for now, we are very happy to be foster parents and provide cats with a safe place to call home this season and beyond. We anticipate having Sir Penguin for only a couple of weeks. He’ll be due for his next series of shots soon.

Until then, we will continue to keep showing him lots of love and cuddles and fatten him up until he is big enough to get neutered.
