Flashback Friday- This is why I don’t have flowers around my cat!

If you own a pet at home, particularly a cat or a dog, there is a reality we all face when it comes to having plants in the house. They are in danger! Understanding which household items in and outside the home are toxic to pets is essential to keep them safe. Both dogs and cats are oh so curious and love to get into things and explore. Sometimes this is to the detriment of their health! So you always have to keep an eye on them.

    Lesson learned

Case in point! In this Flashback, Friday picture from 2011, my then fiance, now husband, brought home take-out dinner and flowers for me one evening. I set the vase of roses on the kitchen counter only for a minute later to catch Dusty checking things out.

She had hopped on the counter ( a no-no!) and was intrigued by the pink roses. She was sniffing and then lick lick.

    Nooooo!”

Thank goodness my helicopter cat mom instincts anticipated Dusty being nosy. I was able to grab her and place her on the floor away from the flowers before she chomped down on the leaves and made herself sick (or worse).

I love roses. They are my favorite flower and the only one that does not make me sneeze like crazy. However, when I was a cat mom to Precious and Dusty, I had no natural plants. I would tell friends, “This is why I don’t have flowers.”
