18 Truths of my Imperfect Life

If you read my last post, you know a little bit more about how ImpurrfectLife came about. Dealing with the challenges every day in addition to going through the grieving process over the past year, I have come to realize some truths that have stood the test of time. Check out the list below and see if any of these things resonate with you. Here are 18 Truths of My Imperfect Life.

    1.    Accept life can be ugly.

With all the events on the news and troubles in the world, it can be disheartening and depressing but remember it’s not all bad. It’s a big world out there. I’d like to believe most people aren’t crazy.

    2.    Life is also beautiful.

On the flip side, there are beautiful moments in this imperfect life that aren’t captured for the world to see. Precious moments like seeing a rainbow after the rain, a California sunset, and spending quiet time with loved ones is priceless.

    3.    Life is not filtered, like Facebook and Instagram posts.

Remember, try not to compare your life to others on social media because you are seeing the “edited cut” of their lives.  Don’t let distractions minimize how far you have come in your life journey. We all have our own paths.

    4.    You encounter obstacles to make you stronger and build character.

Obstacles suck, but you make it over the hurdle and are stronger for it. You never know what God is preparing you for in the future.

    5.    You’ll get through it.

Trials suck, but you make it through to tell your story. Your experience is a testimony for someone else.

    6.    You are where you are meant to be at this moment (but it doesn’t mean you’ll stay there).

Don’t limit yourself in your thoughts. Be patient. Where you are today, is not where you will end up 5, 10, 20 years from now.  How you think and act today will dictate the direction of your life in the future.

    7.    Don’t sweat the small stuff.

In the grand scheme of things, don’t fret about insignificant things. Cherish important things in life like loving relationships with friends, family, and good health.

    8.    You are not the only one going through what you are going through.

You are not alone. There is someone else in the world that is going through what you are going through or has been in your shoes before and lived to tell about it.

    9.  Pets help make life better!

I can testify! If you want to get a glimpse of what unconditional love is, adopt/foster a pet!

    10. Sometimes life gets worse before it gets better.

Sometimes you have to go through the storm to finally see the rainbow. There is always hope. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.

    11. Sometimes the ones closest to you will hurt you the most.

I know this to be true. It hurts but no one said life is fair. It’s a fact of life. The best thing to do is learn from the experience and make choices to not put yourself in the same position to be hurt again. Cut out negative, toxic people from your life. Understand real love does not hurt you (physically or emotionally). Surround yourself with people who show love in action.

    12. You are responsible for your own life.

Don’t look to others or fancy things to fulfill you. That’s your job. If you don’t like your life, change your attitude, self-reflection, and change your behavior to see different results. If that still does not work, consider removing yourself from your current environment and go where you are valued and treated best.

    13. Sometimes great love comes with great loss.

This is a fact of life. Great love sometimes has great loss, but the memories are always there and the love shared never dies.

    14. Take it one day at a time.

When you are depressed or feel defeated remember this tip to help make it through. Rome wasn’t built in a day, so don’t expect the same.

    15. Have a goal, don’t procrastinate to take action or risk regret later.

Muster up the courage to take action towards your goal, even if it’s a small step. One small step forward every day adds up to progress.  Being stagnate won’t get you anywhere and then you’ll end up living with regrets later in life.

    16. We aren’t perfect, so don’t expect perfection.

In the real world, we aren’t airbrushed or perfect. We are all imperfect and unique, so embrace your individuality.

    17. Do your best.

Whatever you desire to accomplish, give it 100%. Even if you fail, get back up and try again. At least you can say you tried, right? That is more than most people can say.

    18. Life is best shared with friends/family and pets!

The best things in life are free such as love, laughter, and good health. These moments are to be treasured and are magnified when shared with others, including our furry friends!
