Unleash the Fun: 12 Easy Summertime Activities to Enjoy with Your Furry Friend

The official start of summer is just around the corner, and as Iโ€™ve just returned from a long weekend getaway, I felt inspired to share a few summertime staycation ideas you can do solo or with your pet. What better way to celebrate than by indulging in a few exciting activities? Whether you’re flying solo or accompanied by your pet, these 12 easy and fun summertime activities will keep you entertained and create unforgettable memories.

These activities not only promote self-care but also provide opportunities for bonding, exercise, and relaxation with your furry friends. With sweltering temperatures on the horizon, remember to prioritize the well-being and safety of your pets while engaging in these activities. So, grab your pet’s leash or gather your two-legged friends because it’s time for some adventure!

1) Hit the Beach

Pack your sunscreen, a beach towel, and some refreshing drinks because it’s time for a beach day! Feel the sand between your toes, take a dip in the ocean, and enjoy the warmth of the sun while playing fetch with your furry friend. Just remember to bring plenty of water and shade to keep your pet cool and hydrated.

2) Hiking Adventure

Take a thrilling hiking adventure with your pet and explore the beauty of nature together. Find a scenic trail nearby, immerse yourself in the lush greenery, and conquer new heights. It’s a great way to exercise and bond with your pet while enjoying breathtaking views.

3) Try Animal Yoga

Unleash your inner Zen and try animal yoga! Whether it’s solo yoga, goat yoga, or even cat and dog yoga, these sessions offer a unique opportunity for you and your pet to stretch, relax, and find inner peace together.

4) Indulge in a Spa Day

Spoil yourself and your pet with a luxurious spa day! Take your furry friend to the groomers for some pampering, and while they enjoy their treatment, treat yourself to a mini spa day too. Get a massage, or a mani-pedi, or simply indulge in some quiet relaxation. You both deserve it!

5) Have a Photography Session

Preserve memories by having a pet photography session. Hire a professional photographer, or get creative with your smartphone. Capture the love and joy you share with your pet in beautiful photographs that you can cherish forever.

6) Try a Camping Adventure

Escape the hustle and bustle of your everyday routine and embark on a camping adventure with your pet. Set up a cozy tent, roast marshmallows by the campfire, and enjoy the tranquility of nature together. It’s the perfect opportunity to disconnect from technology and reconnect with your furry friend.

7) Have a Playdate

Organize a playdate at the park or in your own backyard. Invite your friends and their pets for a fun-filled day of fetch, Frisbee, and laughter. It’s a fun way for your pet to socialize and make new furry friends while you enjoy quality time with your two-legged friends.

8) Throw a Barbeque Party

Fire up the grill and throw a barbeque party for your friends and their pets. Everyone loves good food and great company, so why not combine them? Enjoy delicious grilled treats, play games, and create lasting memories together. Remember to keep any dangerous foods or hazards away from the reach of your pets.

9) Take a Road Trip

Engaging in summertime activities doesn’t mean you have to stay in one place. Hit the road and embark on an exciting road trip to a new city or small town you’ve never visited before. Explore unfamiliar surroundings, try local cuisine, and discover hidden gems along the way. Your pet will love the adventure, and you’ll create lifelong memories together.

10) Visit the local Farmer’s Market

Visit your local farmers market and support small businesses while picking up fresh and healthy food for yourself. Many farmer’s markets allow pets, so you can stroll through the stalls while savoring the delicious treats with your furry companion by your side.

11) Attend an outdoor festival

Join a crowd of other music lovers at an outdoor music festival or concert. Be prepared to get down and boogie with your two-legged or four-legged friend as you vibe to the beat.

12) Watch movies under the stars

Forget Netflix and chill and watch movies under the stars! Visit a movie drive-thru or outdoor movie night in the park and create a memorable experience with your pet or companion. Remember to bring a blanket, water, and plenty of snacks!

These are all such great ideas for Summer! Now that we live in Florida, Summer has kind of a different meaning. It’s so blazing hot every day that outdoor activities can be difficult. We’ll be traveling up North later in Summer and I can’t wait to GO! Hiking is our first thing on the agenda for our trip.

Ah! Having year round sunny hot weather may force you to switch things up a bit. Hiking is a great activity, especially as the leave change. So beautiful! Safe travels when the time comes!

Great post and ideas, for us especially with Layla aging I try to get outdoors into the dog park at least once a day and on weekends we will go to another park, change of smells and scenery makes life better. I wish I could do more with her but with her age I cannot take risks.

Having a senior dog and choosing activities you both enjoy can be a challenge, but sounds like you have it all figured out! You’re a great mom to Layla and she’s in good hands and has quite the social life!

What a great list of staycation ideas to do with your furry friend! I would LOVE to take Henry to the beach. It’s on my to-do list. For now, I’m hoping to get in plenty of hiking with my furry little buddy. He absolutely loves hiking. Actually, I do as well. But I think he probably outdoes me in skill and love of the sport. Thank you for this great list! I’m sharing with all my dog parents.

Thank you and so true. I know Emily (KittyKatGo) has all kinds of adventures with her cats. You should splurge on yourself and Toulouse with a night under the stars or a little massage.

Kamira, I am loving these ideas! A few I used to do, but I sure do love the idea of watching movies under the stars! I always had my boy Wolf with me outdoors and I am missing him when I do things now. My foot and hand reach over for that reassuring furry touch…there are so many wonderful ideas here for folks to enjoy with their pets! Sharing, of course!
