It’s kitten season. Wanna foster?
June is here, and that means it’s kitten season which means it’s foster time! One half of the year is over, and I was beginning to wonder when I would get another foster cat. Well, just as fast as that thought crossed my mind, I got a random text last week after a long day. After dinner, I checked my messages and saw one from People for Animals. The subject of the message was titled “Wanna foster?” After clicking on the image and seeing this cutie, I said, “Heck yeah!”

Meet Sir Penguin Kittyworth!
Within a day, I found myself returning to People for Animals to pick up this adorable black and white kitten named Sir Penguin Kittyworth. Yes, that’s really his name. He’s an adorable male tuxedo kitten. When I picked him up, he was about 6 weeks old and just had his deworming and the first round of shots.
Sir Penguin needed a foster home quickly to help get his immune system strong and get out of the shelter environment with the other animals. Being here at home with us is a much more conducive environment for a growing kitten. Having the ability to be in a cleaner, quieter, more comfortable setting will do him wonders for socialization and stimulation.
To be perfectly honest, I do not know much more about his background as I forgot to ask!! Imagine that? What can I say? His cute face has me mesmerized. I’m only assuming he is one from a litter from a pregnant cat that was surrendered or TNR (trapped, spayed/neutered and released).
Coming home
We picked up Sir Penguin last weekend, and it’s been just over a week, and he’s flourishing. He was so shy and scared the first two days; however, taking him in our arms to cuddle and give reassuring hugs and head pats, he’s gaining his confidence.
Sir Penguin should be named Everest because he loves to climb and explore. When he’s in his playtime zone, he’s fearless. Honestly, since Precious and Dusty passed away, I forgot what it was like having such a young kitten in the home.
He’s in his big crate most of the time; however, my husband and I take him out every day to roam while being supervised. He’s a kitten, so he’s got the energy to burn, is still learning new sights and sounds, and is full of zest for life. Would you expect anything less?
Sir Penguin Kittyworth is pretty mild-mannered otherwise, as far as I can tell. He does love his playtime and pushing around balls. You can see him in action with my husband in the clip below.
He’s a keeper?
Well, I have a confession to make. I’ve been fostering since last year and loved every minute of it. So when my husband was holding Sir Penguin one random evening, why did I blurt out, “Maybe we should keep him?” Was that a Freudian slip? Am I finally ready to adopt? Maybe. It’s been 4 years since my heart cat Dusty passed away. I know she’s always with us in spirit, and no one will ever replace her. At the same time, I know I cannot live the rest of my life without paws in the home.
My husband likes the idea too. We’ll see what happens. I do want to be in a position to have the adequate space and flexibility to have a cat full-time. Perhaps I’m overthinking it, but I want my next cat to have the very best of everything.
Time will tell
In the end, time will tell. I’ll be sure to keep you all posted. As for now, we are very happy to be foster parents and provide cats with a safe place to call home this season and beyond. We anticipate having Sir Penguin for only a couple of weeks. He’ll be due for his next series of shots soon.
Until then, we will continue to keep showing him lots of love and cuddles and fatten him up until he is big enough to get neutered.

Awww, he’s adorable! You are wonderful for agreeing to foster. Don’t feel bad if you decide you aren’t ready to adopt.

OMG he is adorable and has hit the jackpot with you, Cannot wait to hear more

Thank you for the kind words Jenna. I can’t believe I was so nervous to foster at first. I really love it.

Ruth,
LOL You sound like one of my friends…she said the same thing. He really fits in well especially with hubby.

He is just TOO cute and I love his name! I’m sure you’ll update, looking forward to seeing if you do end up adopting him. And of course lots more pictures of this little cutie!

Of course you should keep him!

Kitties are so adorable. It’s heartbreaking when they don’t have a loving home.

Oh isn’t he just the most gorgeous kitten. It’s great you can foster, I have a friend is rescue and she says fosterers are their gold dust.
Good luck and anyway, even if you adopt, who says you can’t foster too 🙂

Adorable!!! I would love some kitten love – and could certainly use some, lately.
Sadly, my husband is allergic; so, the one we have is more than enough. My dog, Henry is a bit of a nightmare with cats. Don’t get me wrong, he loves them, and wants to play; but, he can be a bit rough, and it gets quite noisy at times! Maybe I will just sneak some into the house……….

Aww.. Sir Penguin Kittyworth is adorable! Very clever name too. That is great that you foster kitties. I would have a hard time fostering, I would have to keep them all, haha. Thanks for posting.

What a handsome kitty! Whether or not you keep him in the end, you are doing such a great service by fostering. Cats and dogs should know life in a loving home.
Kamira Gayle
Marjorie,
Yes he really is so adorable. You’re right…I could do both! We’ll see!
Kamira Gayle
Sadie,
LOL I hear ya…sounds like you have a lot going on as it is!
Kamira Gayle
Thank you. So far so good. I understand what you mean. That was definitely one of my fears considering fostering….If I had Oprah money I’d keep them all!!LOL
Kamira Gayle
Amy,
That’s so true and I couldn’t agree more! Well said and thanks!

Such a sweetie! We have a feral we “adopted” since a kitty and he is a gorgeous tuxedo as well. I hope he works out for you as a family member! He’s lucky to have you as a foster momma! I’ve never fostered, but welcomed five Siberian Huskies to our family within two years, three puppies at one time, does that count?! LOL.
Sweet Purrfections
I think Sir Penguin has already captured both of your hearts!
Debbie
Ahhh, Sir Penguin Kittysworth is FREAKING ADORABLE! So glad that he’s flourishing in your care. Hope he finds his forever family soon
Beth
He is adorable! If you decide to adopt him, you might still be able to foster other cats, especially if you start when he is young and more flexible.
Talent Hounds
Oh my goodness he is so cute. I think it is a great idea to foster but I’d be very tempted to keep him. Kittens and puppies are iressistable. One almost forgets it is such a big committment when you look at their little faces (my Nala was a tiny sickly kitten dumped in a bag on the road when we found her and she lived to 19).
Kamira Gayle
Dorothy,
Aww thank you for the kinds words! And welcoming 5 huskies in 2 years definitely counts in my book! So sorry to hear about Chloe. RIP sweet Angel.
Kamira Gayle
I think you are right!!! My husband has already renamed him with a nickname too! LOL
Kamira Gayle
Debbie,
Thank you!! He’s a pure joy to foster.
Kamira Gayle
Beth,
Good point!! I’ll definitely keep you posted!
Kamira Gayle
OH wow!! Nala lived to 19!! Wow from where she began that’s a wonderful life lived. You are so right about kittens being irresistible. I can tell hubby is smitten too…even though he’d never admit it. LOL
