10 Things my cats would say if they could talk!

Reflecting and thinking about Dusty and Precious passing on, I wonder what they would say if they could speak. I have a few thoughts on the things my cats would say. Have you ever wondered about that? What would my Fluffy say if they could talk?

My girls have gone on to Rainbow Bridge now, but if I had to guess what they were thinking, I think it would make me laugh, cry, and everything in between. So, in this post, I will give you some humorous insight into the mind of Precious and Dusty’s personalities and what I think they would want me to know if they could talk.

If this is your first time hearing about Precious and Dusty…

    First, let me introduce you.

Precious and Dusty had differing personalities.

    My first love

Precious was my first cat, and very independent and a little moody. She was a chunky tabby cat and preferred to be left alone most of the time. However, she was always right by my side if I was in trouble or if she sensed I needed her.

As a kitten, she could not go long without me being in her sight before wailing. Boy, I remember those days. It reminded me of what it would be like to raise an infant. She would cry (meow) for me when I left the room and be soothed as soon as I came back.

After some training and a few years passed, she grew more confident and independent. However, all that changed the day I brought Dusty home.

    New addition

I got Dusty from a kid selling kittens curbside in a box while running errands. She was the smallest of the bunch sleeping in the corner. Dusty was a Siamese and Calico mix.

I don’t know what kind of home she came from, but I think there was some abuse. I say this because after rescuing her at 6 weeks old, whenever I would try to pet her, she would always pull away and duck as if she feared being hit.

Eventually, Dusty’s fear fell by the wayside, and her bubbly, active personality started to shine through.

    Sibling Rivalry

Dusty was the exact opposite of Precious. Precious being the older sibling, was Queen of the castle until she had to share that attention. Getting them to get along was challenging, but eventually, they appeared to reach an understanding. You stay out of my way, and I’ll stay out of yours.

I often remember times when Dusty was feeling rambunctious, and she would hide in a corner while Precious walked by unknowingly. Then Dusty would pounce to get a reaction out of Precious and force her to play with her.

Of course, that was not Precious’ favorite thing, but funny to watch the two interact.

    Sudden loss

As they aged, they both mellowed out a bit. Eventually, Precious passed away unexpectedly too soon, and Dusty was left behind alone without her sibling. She had her auntie, grandparents, and me for support.

With time she eventually came out of her grief and returned to being the happy-go-lucky cat we knew and loved.

So, reflecting on my experience raising these two beautiful fur kids over the course of 20 years, I thought it would be fun to surmise what they would say if they could talk. Here are 10 things I think my cats would say if they could talk.

10 things my cats would say if they could talk

    Work

    1. What’s the rush? Mom, why are you stressing? Work will be there tomorrow. Just relax and take a nap. It’s what I do. Life is more than a paycheck. Live a little. Start with a nice stretch. See how I do it? It’s all about the belly rubs and making biscuits. Chillax. (Precious & Dusty)

    Independent Woman

    1. Neediness is not cool, and I’m so glad you understand. Sometimes one needs alone time. Actually, most time, I want my alone time. What can I say? I’m an independent cat, and I can tell you share that trait too. See, this is why we get along so well….okay you can go now. (Precious)

    Hero

    1. Thanks for saving me. You have no idea what I had to endure before you picked me up. For that, I’m so grateful. You give me baths, groom me, snuggle with me, play with me, and give me treats. This life is more than I could see for myself. You say you are so lucky to have me, but I’m so lucky to have you and a family. I love you. (Dusty)

    Hygiene

    1. Two showers a day? Mom, we are more alike than I realized. Grooming and cleanliness our language. Clearly, we are on the same page. (Precious & Dusty)

    Baby Talk

    1. Mom, I am an adult cat. Don’t you know baby talk is for babies? (sigh) Well, I will let it slide. You are too funny. Baby talk is for babies, but I’ll amuse you because I like you. (Precious & Dusty)Memories Collage cats sample digital collage

    I got your back

    1.  I may act aloof, but that’s not the case. I’m just observing everything and don’t want to be involved. Mom, I hope you know when I come and snuggle next to you and purr, it’s not because I want something from you. I realize you need support. I’m always here. It is too bad I don’t have longer arms to wrap around you when you are sad. Instead, I’ll stay here, lie beside you, make some biscuits, and purr until the sun comes up. (Precious)

Mom’s got a boyfriend (now husband)

    1.  It was just you and me before HE came along, but after taking time to assess the situation, I can tell you I approve. I see the way he looks at you. You are his Queen (and you don’t know it yet), but he’s your King. I’ve never seen this side of happiness in you before. He’s quiet but polite. I must say I welcome the extra head pats and belly rubs from this new human. He says he’s more of a dog person, but I can tell I got him wrapped around my paw now. He’s a keeper, mom. I can’t wait to see your face when he proposes. (Dusty)

    Scaredy pants

    1.  Mom, did I actually startle you? Humans as big as you are, you sure get scared easily. I’ll have to remember to knock over a few things on the way to the kitchen to get your attention before entering the room. Scaredy pants! Is dinner ready yet? (Precious & Dusty)

    The Veterinarian

    1.  Ah, hem. Just so you know, vet visits aren’t necessary. Don’t waste your money, time, and energy. Who needs to be stabbed with needles, get blood taken, and then get charged for it? I’ll never understand humans. Paying for self-torture…it doesn’t make sense. (Precious & Dusty)

    Going home

    1. Today’s the day. It’s my time to go. I know you felt it in the pit of your stomach and hoped for more time. Don’t be sad, for it’s been a great ride. We’ve traveled across the country, discovered new places, had a lot of laughs, met new friends, and did it together. I’m so glad to have you as my human. Don’t feel guilty, for we all have to depart this life sometime and continue our journey on the other side. I won’t be too far away. I’ll always be near. My heart beats in yours. I love you now and forever. I can’t stay so I won’t say goodbye, but see you later. Until we meet again… (Precious & Dusty)

    Final Thoughts

So, those are the ten things my cats would say if they could talk back then. I hope this post gave you insight into Precious and Dusty’s minds and helped make you smile and be entertained. It was such an honor to be their Mom.

Precious will hold a special place in my heart because she was my very first cat. And Dusty was my heart cat. Both of them had unique personalities, all their own, and I adored them both. I look forward to what lies ahead with future fostering and pet parenthood.

Although I haven’t adopted a new cat yet, I know I’ll be ready when the time is right. As they say, they choose us, humans, right?
