Monday Inspiration #90 – Nothing changes unless you do.

    #jamesbaldwin #quotes #blackhistory #injustice

In keeping with my weekly inspirational messages, I’ll be sharing another quote from Black influential people of the past. Additionally, today’s quote falls in line with the theme of change and justice. This week also happens to be National Justice for Animals Week. If you are not familiar with James Baldwin, keep reading.

James Baldwin was a Black writer and author who passionately wrote about the subject of race in America and his experience living as an openly gay man living in white America. He spent much time abroad in France due to the heightened racial tensions of the times. Through his novels, essays and poetry he shared the pain and struggle of Black Americans. He was best known for his books of essays -Notes of a Native Son (1955), Nobody Knows My Name (1961), and documentary I am Not Your Negro (2016).

Reading this quote resonated with me. Whether it is justice needed in holding people accountable socially or in the animal welfare realm, the reality is nothing can change if people deny injustice exists, ignore it or stay silent.

You will continue to have problems and injustice until the ugly truth is openly called out, recognized, and rectified. Can change happen overnight? No. But progress can never really be made until you uproot the cancer, cut it out and take steps to heal.

Replace old ways of injustice and immorality with new ways of prevention and justice for all including those with paws. Make the conscious effort to not repeat the past but make a better future. When you know better, do better.
