Sometimes in life, you come across someone or something that makes you take pause. In my case, I remember the day I went running errands at the grocery store, only to have my life changed forever. A simple moment in time that made me pause just outside the entrance to the store.
Why?
Seeing a young boy with a box full of Siamese mix kittens would make anyone with a heart stop and look.
This was the day I met my heart cat Dusty. I didn’t know it then, but she would be a powerful motivation in my life.
Today’s motivational Monday quote reminds us of pets’ power in inspiring our daily lives.
I stumbled upon this quote by Rob Clewley, which states:
The healing power of pets is not just a concept but it is an outstanding reality that has changed many people and shown time and time again that having animals is effective and successful in healing the body, mind, and soul. -Rob Clewley
Pets are our rock
When thinking about this quote, it really resonated with me. With both my angel cats, Dusty and Precious, played pivotal roles in my life. They saved me as much as I thought I saved them.
Life has brought so many ups and downs, enough to where I should probably write a screenplay, but I digress. The point is whether it was comforting me through illness, relationship breakups, or sharing the joys of positive life-changing milestones; my fur babies were always right by my side.
Pets teach us
Their purrs helped take my mind off the pain I experienced, physically and emotionally. Their crazy antics brought me joy and laughter in times of sorrow. And the need to care for them daily taught me discipline, patience, sacrifice, and how to love.
Together we survived hurricanes, family drama, road trips, sickness, weddings, and more.
Collectively, animals in my life made this experience called living so much more meaningful and impactful. They help give one purpose and a chance to make a positive impact in this world through service and care.
Pets helped play an instrumental role in helping to heal my mind, body, and soul.

I totally agree about the healing power of pets! Since my childhood dog Ginny, my pets have been giving me comfort and motivation. Ginny was a source of comfort in a somewhat chaotic household. My cat Maggie was with me through some very trying times in my young, single days. Icy helped me through losing Maggie and recently my sweet little Phoebe, an unexpected, devastating loss. And becoming a therapy dog team with Icy literally changed my life. Not only did she help so many people but it gave me purpose as well. And I created some very special friendships while volunteering. My pets have all been so special to me and enriched my life in so many ways.

Cathy,
Thank you so much for sharing your testimony! You’ve been through a lot and so glad that you have Icy to be by your side now. Bless your fur angels Maggie and Phoebe too.

Our pets ARE our rock. Harvey guided and showed me the right way through his courage and his determination to love life. I miss him and the worry he caused and the looking after I did and the love we shared.

Marjorie,
Aww, Harvey so wise and a teacher for you. They teach us so much and don’t even realize it. The love remains in our hearts then, now, and always! Thanks for sharing your insight.

I couldn’t agree more. Our pets are our rocks. They do support and guide us at whatever point we are in life. Each of my fur kids has done this in different ways and each has been needed. I’d like to think each also needed me. There’s one more thing I will say, which you hinted at, our fur kids give us a chance to escape to a better place, if even for a few minutes. That’s extremely powerful. Thank goodness I’ve had some amazing fur kids to share my life with to this point. I wouldn’t survive without them.
Great article! I’m sharing it with all my animal-loving friends.

Terri,
Thank you so much. I’m glad this post resonated with you. I appreciate the shares too. Yes, I think as much as they save us, we save them right back too. Fate brings us together for a reason.

This is so true! Pets are an amazing source of inspiration. Sharing my life with my two dogs helps to remind me to find the joy in everyday life, and to never take even the simple things for granted.

Michelle,
Well said! Every day is a blessing. Treat each day as if it is our last and don’t sweat the small stuff.

Baby was my rock through hardship and Layla took over when she passed, she motivates me, makes me laugh and so much more. Pets are the reason so many people manage to deal with hardships also as they keep us going. Great pos

The biggest thing my dogs taught me is to seize the moment. When the moment is good, take full advantage of it.

Oh yes…even going through my post-surgery rehab now I think of them and how they persevered through their surgeries, especially the CCL ones…my motto has been “If my dogs could do it, so can I!” I miss them here while healing. They gave me a comfort that nothing else does. My family is amazing, but there is something about a cold nose nudge, a woo, and feeling that warm fur next you that brings peace. I miss that and them tremendously. I close my eyes at night and can almost hear, see, and feel their presence–as though it was back during our hey days together. xo
