Here in the USA Halloween (October 31st) is a big deal. I honestly don’t recall it being such a big ordeal when I was a child many years ago. I remember dressing up in costumes and trick or treating as a pre-teen and then as I got older attending costume parties or just going to the local haunted house or hay ride. Now that I’m all grown up, I get enjoyment from a Halloween movie marathon and goodies!
Memories…
As for my girls, Precious and Dusty, we never dressed them up for Halloween. However, that is not to say they didn’t get treats! The only costume picture I could find with Dusty was this leprechaun hat she wore one holiday. What do you think?

Too bad her hat did not stay on longer…

I had some great memories and silly moments with Dusty.
One of the best things about this time of year is seeing little two-legged and four-legged little monsters in the streets wearing unique costumes. So with that said, if you are looking for ideas to dress up your pets, check out the following video for some clever Halloween pet costume ideas to try this season for both cats and dogs!
Be safe. Enjoy. Have fun!

Most of my cats would freak out if I tried to put a costume on them. But my harness trained cats would be ok with a modified harness. Plush is going to a show Halloween weekend, I think we’re going to be in the parade this year. If I can find a fun costume. Maybe a pumpkin. Or a bat. I’m going to be a witch
Holly,
Sweet! Looks like you’ve got most everything planned out. I like the idea of aa cute pumpkin for a costume…or whatever your kitty is comfortable wearing in the parade. 🙂 Enjoy!
Not a fan AT ALL of dressing pets up for Halloween unless it is a hat (that doesn’t cover the face), or a festive bandana or garland that i use for a photo…a BRIEF photo.
Caren,
Yep I hear ya there. My girls were never fans of dressing up or wearing anything. The most they would be comfortable with is a sparkly collar and bell. LOL I remember once I tried to put a little white tee on Precious (my first cat) and she wasn’t having it! She just protested by laying on the floor like jello…she wasn’t moving. LOL
I love love love Halloween. The pups always have handmade costumes. It’s such a fun project to do and of course it makes for great photos.
😉
I always looked forward to Halloween when I was younger. I think I was turned off when it became so commercial and I had hundreds of children coming to my door to get candy. Now, I’m a Halloween scrooge of sorts. I go to the back of the house with the girls so they aren’t freaked out by all the visitors.
Halloween is our family favorite holiday. We are over the top with homemade decorations (animatronics that my husband makes) so we get a lot of people trick or treating. However, I don’t expose our pets to it. They stay inside in their crates and no one even rings the doorbell because someone stays out on the porch.
My dogs aren’t much for wearing outfits, so I shy away from them. Marty, my cat, would shred anything I tried to put on him. I like some of the ones in the video, though! Got some props today that I’m going to try with my dogs so I can get some fun Halloween pictures. Hopefully, they’ll play along for a few minutes!
We don’t participate in Halloween activities. The McSquare humans are pretty introverted so going out for anything social is a stretch for us. And Halloween is one of those holidays where I scope out the neighborhood carefully. Most places I’ve lived as an adult don’t have kids trick-or-treating. One apartment complex I lived in had several kids, so management gave folks an organ pumpkin to put on your door if you had treats. Boy was I relieved. I thought I might have to sit in the dark pretending no one was home.
I am outside the USA and in spite of much commercial profiteering by shops, it has not gained much traction here. I know that in thr USA it is the most fantastical adventure for youngsters though!
I spend the week before Halloween tweeting and sharing about keeping Black Cats safe from stupid humans and their ignorant superstitions so my patience with the ‘cute stuff’ wears a bit thin pretty fast.
I love Halloween! We don’t dress up the dogs though. Gonzo gets too excited by all the kids running around and Beau gets scared and aggressive to other dogs. So for everyone’s safety they stay safe and sound inside. But that being said, we do have a Halloween horse show and dress up the kids (and adults too) and horses!
Heather,
See now that’s something you don’t hear everyday…a Halloween horse show! I hope you blog or post some pics about it. That would be great to see. 🙂
We love Halloween! We usually only dress up our girls, because they’re the ones that love going to dog events at breweries and the like. This year Boomer is a lion and Roxie is a bumble bee!
Debbie,
I love it!
Layla refuses to wear a costume, she is not happy with anything on her and having tried many times have given up on that idea but Baby RIP was the opposite and her last Halloween costume was a fire hydrant – one of the funniest I have ever seen
Ruth,
Aww a fire hydrant? Sounds adorable. I hear you about Layla though. My cats were the same way. They’d always wiggle out of their hats or just lay limp on the floor if I attempted to put an outfit on them. (sigh) oh well. Funny memories.
Some of those are really cute. We pass out candy, Dexter loves to socialize with the kiddos. It’s looking like this Halloween will be nice and warm here in Ohio. Ya!
Tonya,
We used to do the same however when we moved we got zero people. So hence the movie marathons in recent years. Enjoy Halloween and be safe. Mild weather is always a bonus!
Happy-Go-Doodle Chloe is the color of fall! Maybe she could dress up for Halloween as a fall leaf! Thanks for sharing the video!
Happy to share. You’re welcome!
Wow, I actually love the skeleton! Overall, though, my dogs always had the freedom of NOT having to wear any kind of costumes, Halloween or not.
🙂
I’m taking Mr. N to Halloween parties. Yes, plural. I haven’t quite decided which ones yet. It’s a good thing he likes dressing up!
Wow. Mr. N is quite the social butterfly. Look forward to following your blog to see what Mr. N dresses up as this season. Have fun!
I cannot dress Lola and Lexy up for Halloween. They won’t tolerate any costumes at all. I think they would look so adorable, too. If I do any “dress up” it’s through Pizap!
I know what you mean. The most I could do with my girls was a hat! It never lasted long on their heads either.
